SCENE 2010 – the Sydney Congress for Embracing the New Evangelisation – saw Martin Place, Sydney become a festival of faith for young people this week. The week-long celebration began with “Catholic Underground” with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, and the launch of Cradio, Catholic radio online.
“Blending traditional with contemporary prayer and music the evening then moved into full swing with a superb performance of uniquely Catholic faith-inspired rock music by the friars and Set Apart music ministry from Wollongong,”
said Elizabeth Peoples of the CREDO office of the Sydney archdiocese.
“Attendance at SCENE has been terrific, with venues comfortably full at Catholic Underground, SCENE’s family day and the evening pub talks.”
Buddy and Houda Jilwan, a couple who attended the SCENE family day, said they enjoyed the day, particularly the talk on marriage.
“The kids had a good time and we loved the opportunity to participate in Mass, the Marian procession and listening to Michael and Trisha Casey. They were great.”
This was followed by an afternoon workshop on street evangelisation presented by Fr Dave Gallaghan, and Fr Antoine of the St John Community, France. A series of pub talks at the St James Hotel, Star Bar and Sanctuary Hotel in the city have attracted large audiences, including Lucy O’Connell’s presentation ‘Re -fashioning Womanhood’, and Br Max Sculley’s ‘Is Yoga, Tai Chi and Reiki good for the soul?’.
“Feedback from the pub talks has been great,” Elizabeth said. “You could hear a pin drop when she gave her testimony.
Most people seemed quite gobsmacked.” Recordings of the pub talks will be available on the Xt3 website
